Please share your reflections on today's conflict resolution workshop at the US Institute for Peace and visit to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

  1. In US Institute of Peace, we had a discussion about resolving conflicts and peace. After that, we went to Martin Luther King Jr. memorial. On our way back to the school, we had an interesting debate about gay marriage. I could see that it is really hard to resolve conflicts.

  3. The workshop at the USIP today was very helpful and it gave us a better understanding of peace and conflict. The day in general was very fun and I genuinely enjoyed it.

  4. The conflict resolution workshop gave me much insight on what constitutes peace - is it merely an absence of conflict, and how high is its threshold? More importantly, how can current international conflicts be managed and peace rebuilt, and future such conflicts be prevented? It is one of my desires to be involved in conflict resolution on a bilateral or multilateral platform in future.

The Martin Luther memorial had a number of inspiring quotes carved on the walls, and it was an interesting visit. However, I felt that the time allocated was not the most ideal - as there needs to be relatively less time to visit a memorial compared to the time needed to explore a place like Georgetown. :o The other suggestion I'd like to raise is for a guide to give us brief information and historical background of the memorials which we visited, rather than us just touring them by ourselves.

  5. There are really people looking forward to peace everywhere and there are people with the same opinion as you everywhere as well.
Peace is generally anticipated, but crazy militants exist, too. Then, anything paradoxical like Yin and Yang happen everywhere.
So in all,I want to tell that :anything has its reason to exist, including peace and wars.

  6. I found that the US Insitute of Peace was an interesting place to visit...
The activities there were essentially beneficial... though I do not see how such an organization can be authorized to directly interfere in foreign countries' affairs when it is not even officially partnered or associated with the UN, which is generally considered the only organization allowed to interfere with foreign affairs directly...
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial was nice to visit but the time set to visit was very prolonged...

  7. Conflict and Peace are surely obscure words, but today I think I at least got a grasp of the definitions of these two terms. And I also saw the efforts that tries to predict and reduce violent conflicts in the US Institute for Peace.

  8. It was good to know about that there is an institute that tries hard to build peace without using violence. I realized that it is important to be open-minded and respectful to every people's perspectives. Through visiting the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, I could see how he contributed much on promoting racial equality.

  12. I thought the conflict resolution workshop was interesting because we learnt more about the definitions of peace/ conflict and the qualities we require for conflict resolution. It's super important to be committed to the peace process and to have a good understanding of the full situation. The Martin Luther King Jr. memorial was great cause the park ranger explained the visual significance of the stones. I liked the visual homage to the quote about the arc bending towards justice. I thought that the quotes were also very universal and although they were spoken almost half a century ago, the significance has not diminished and those words are definitely still relevant today.

  13. Today was very interesting, although the workshop didn't seem to give me much new information, it was just a clarification. But this was more than outweighed by its wonderful architecture. The break in Georgetown was rather short, we just had 1.5 hours to eat, which gave us no time to actually look around.

  14. The day started off with an interesting visit to the magnificent Institute for Peace. Not only did the architecture and design of the place stand out, but the entire peace resolution lesson stood out as one that will definitely come in handy in the future.

In the town of Georgetown, we were given the choice of scattering across the town for lunch. Myself and 5 others settled in at a quiet Italian Pizzeria and enjoyed a sensible discussion over good food.

The trip was concluded with a visit to the impressive Martin Luther King Jr. memorial. After a short tour and a long trip to the shop, we boarded the bus and made our way back to Dominion.

The bus ride involved a particularly controversial discussion about gay marriage, or the lack thereof. Myself and my Republican friend, DJay, found it quite challenging to come to terms with the Democrats.

  15. Today we learned a lot about peace building with Megan Chabalowski at US Institute for Peace. It takes commitment, hard work, persistence, and skills to be a good peace builder, yet anyone who's devoted can play a role in bringing peace to regions with conflict. I saw many famous and inspiring quotes about justice and equality at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. The statue was actually sculpted by a Chinese artist named Lei Yixin. It's a fun day today and I hope everyone will enjoy the last two days at Dominion High School.

  16. The workshop at the USIP was interesting but in my view a little bit too long. The visit in Georgetown was really nice, I like all the stores and restaurants and all in all it was a nice atmosphere. The visit at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial turned out to be an awesome photography session but I realized that the most people are just walking around and don't care about photography which is in my opinion a very sad fact.
